Hi, Yesterday I used Disk Management on a couple of 16GB USB flash drives to create a New Uncomplicated Volume ran a Total Format on them both every bit FAT32 with a single partition. Both of them are set upwardly as MBR drives so theres no issue at that place.
Then I decided I'd similar to mark one of them every bit Active so I could set it upwards every bit a bootable installation wink drive.
On both of the flash drives when I right click on the drive the "Marker Partition as Active" option is greyed out.
Can anyone explain why?

Y'all shouldn't demand to mark the drive as active.  Does the drive prove as active in Deejay Manager, every bit in the screenshot below?

That example you show looks like a bootable drive created with the Media Creation Tool. In that case yes information technology does show as Active.

I was going to set up the flash bulldoze using Disk Direction and Marker it as Active. So mount the Windows 10 ISO and copy the files over to the flash drive afterwards

Don't exist fooled by the name.  It was used for a Windows 10 ISO, but it's just a standard FAT32 flash drive now with a few zip files on it.

You should ever gear up partitions or drives as Agile. Different pollex drives might not work for all situations such every bit using for Ready Boost. If that is a thumb drive with installation media on information technology, then you lot probably volition not exist able to do anything merely reformat it and use for a unlike purpose.

Hi,

My understanding of marking a partition as "Active" is that it needs to be loaded with a bootable program kickoff...

When the bootable program is loaded properly onto the Wink Drive, information technology "Should" show upwards equally "Agile" on information technology's ain... If not. it should be able to be added then...

UEFI Bios machines tin can complicate this every bit their kick partitions practice not employ or permit the "Active" role... Equally a result, you may need to launch the Wink Bulldoze through the Boot Options, and may also need to select either "Flash Drive" or "UEFI Wink Drive" depending on what yous want...

How-do-you-do Slance,

Aye..Ive but been informed that the reason that my USB flash bulldoze has Marking Division as Active greyed out is because my laptop is UEFI not Legacy BIOS fashion then apparently if I wanted to create a bootable drive for some other PC for example it would have to be made Agile by using Diskpart

Hi Seahawk. Ive been informed that the Mark Partition as Agile option is greyed out in Disk Management because my laptop is UEFI boot. So im guessing that at that place is no need to mark any of my USB wink drives as Active.

Yous say that you should ever prepare drives as Active. Is that considering you lot are using Legacy BIOS boot?
